Recommendation for getting started with BluTrack in the classroom?

Short answer, allow open play for the first 10 to 15 minutes.  Secondly, if possible, allowing the students to pick their car will assist the students to become vested/engaged in the experiments outcome. This “ownership” leads to great class participation.  For a more detailed answer, visit STEM page

Can we use marbles on BluTrack?

Yes, however it works best on BluTrack Pro product due to higher rails.  Please note, while marbles will work well, we highly recommend cars because of the “ownership” and “real life” situations results in much better class participation and understanding of concepts.  As one teacher noted “You rarely hear about a “marble” accident on the highway!!!”.

What kind of cars should I use on BluTrack®?

You can use any 1/64th scale car but we found that our BluTrack Racers, BluTrack physics cars (only available through Nasco) and Hot Wheels® work the best.

What if I need a short length of track for my experiment?

BluTrack can be cut to whatever length you require.  Using shorter lengths can be easier to handle and result in quicker setups.

Changing the COF of the track surface?

See STEM page

   _______________________________________________________

What ages is BluTrack intended for?

3 - 103…. The physics don’t change regardless of who is dropping the object, be it a car or marble or…..  The depth of understanding changes with age.

For example, What car is fastest?  Why?

5 year old…. because has big wheels….. College students…. drag, COF….

See STEM page for more details

Why do you recommend NOT using the BluTrack Ramps in Engineering Structures class?

Basically, STRUCTURE is everywhere.  We need the students to explore what is possible first.

If you give your students the ramps too early, you are handing them OUR solution to the problem and it restricts their thinking.  There is nothing magical about our 12.5% slope, maybe their design needs only 8 % or 23%.

Can I use Classic or Performance Series product to teach STEM?

Absolutely.  While our BluTack Pro product will yield the most repeatable data, you can substitute either Classic or Performance Series product into the experiments.  Keep in mind, that BluTrack Pro has higher rails and allows for better use of marbles if you prefer to use them rather than cars. Classic’s longest length is only 15 ft. which may limit the length of some of your experiments.

Why is my BluTrack Pro product gray?

As we are selling more products into the school and promotional markets, we wanted to make it easier for our customers to tell the difference.  BluTrack Pro manufactured prior to June 2102 is blue.  All BluTrack Pro manufactured after June of 2012 is gray.

What are the differences between BluTrack Classic/Performance Series (toys) and BluTrack Pro?

  • BluTrack Pro has 48% more material compared to regular BluTrack® for even more durability
  • Rails are 12% higher than standard toy product
  • BluTrack® Pro design based on teacher feedback for a more substantial classroom use
  • Thicker base ideal for outdoor use and promotional events
  • Available in 18, 50 foot continuous coils and special orders.
  • Smoother, more repeatable track surface
  • Coils in both directions for easier setups and teardowns
  • Better able to handle more extreme temps

My BluTrack will not lay flat or is very stiff?

For best results, BluTrack is designed to operate at 70 degrees.  If track has been in the cold for a long time it can take several days for it to warm to the 70 degree temp.  To speed process, coil up track and soak entire track EXCEPT hanger pad in hot water for 2 minutes.  This will quickly soften the track.

   _______________________________________________________

What is the width of the lanes?

Overall width of the track is 3.85", with each lane being 1.65" wide

Can I get a sample of the Classroom Guide?

The classroom guides are currently only provided with purchase of our Force and Motion Kit and some other speciality kits.  They are not sold separately.

   _______________________________________________________

Can I expand my BluTrack system?

Yes but only like system to like system.  Classic to Classic, Performance to Performance and Pro to Pro.

Unlike traditional systems that use a peg to hold track sections together, BluTrack uses an adhesive system to connect lengths of track together.  Simply peel, stick and rub. Once lengths are assembled, simply coil up BluTrack to store.

Is it true the BluTrack is manufactured in the USA?

Yes, every component is purchased, manufactured, assembled and packaged in the United States except for some ramp styles and BluTrack Racers.
